Gingerbread Men Recipe

This recipe is great because it uses ingredients that I have in the pantry at all times. Plus the dough is a perfect consistency for little hands to mold and roll for hours:

Gingerbread Men

Preheat oven to 350
Blend until creamy:

1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup white or brown sugar

Beat in:
1/2 cup dark molasses

Sift:
3 1/2 cups flour

Resift with:
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (I prefer the Saigon version)
2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp salt

Add the sifted ingredients to the butter mixture in about three parts, alternately with:

1/4 cup water if you roll it or 1/3 cup if you model it.

Knead the dough as you would bread until it’s well blended. Use cookie cutters or mold your own shapes. If you want to add raisins or chocolate chips you should add them before baking.Bake for 8 mins. and cool before icing.

Cool on wire rack.

Enjoy!

Thanks for this recipe! I am determined to make gingerbread this year so your recipe comes at a perfect time. My only problem is the sifting — hmmm…gotta swing by the store to pick one of those up!

Most flour comes pre-sifted these days. I have also found that whisking the dry ingredients works as well as sifting as long as there aren’t any big rocks. I hope you guys enjoy this as much as we did!
