Two kids were sitting on the corner when I drove by. They jumped up waving a very hard to read sign frantically in the air. I had to slow down to read it. In so doing, I pulled over and rolled down the window. The sign read, “Stop and I’ll play you a song!! 25¢”
“Go ahead and play your song,” I shouted.
The one little boy grabbed his flute (which looked to be about as long as he was tall) and the other held a little toy guitar behind him. While the flutist eked out a painful yet recognizable ‘Hot Cross Buns’, the smiling guitarist pretended to back him with equal enthusiasm. When it was over, I handed them each 25¢, which they thanked me for profusely, and I hummed all the way home.
